Greek masks

S loves her  Social Studies teacher and for good reason.  She makes ancient history really interesting.  To finish up their unit on ancient Greece they made masks like ones that may have been used in the Greek theater.  I was excited to go help with the project.

They slathered their faces with Vaseline and took turns layering plastered strips on each others' faces.  Then we adults tidied up the edges of the eyes, nose, and mouth openings and the kids took them home to decorate them over the weekend.
There were no directions or limits for their decorations and S chose to do a Mexican Dia de los Muertos sugar skull mask.  She is naturally more drawn to 3D design so surface design was a good new process for her. Learning to get the paint to blend from white to blue was new and the most challenging for her..

No surprise, hers was voted in the top 10 favorites of the whole grade.
