Young Womens

I've mentioned before that I'm helping out with the teenage girls in our church.  The organization is called Young Women's and we have a great goal oriented program to build them up mind, body, and soul.  Each year we put on an evening introduce the program to the girls who will turn 12 during the year and join our group.  Unbelievably S will join this year!?!?  We used a talk by Elder Uchtdorf called "Your Happily Ever After" as our theme and the girls did a funny little skit using Disney princesses to teach about the Young Women Values.  Here are some shots of the skit.

Each Young Women Value has a color associated with it.  (You'll notice the tulle backdrop in odd, rather un-coordinating colors...well those are the Value colors and we memorize them in a certain order so we always have to keep the colors in that order too.)  The Values and their colors are:

Faith = white

Divine Nature = blue

Individual Worth = red

Knowledge = green

Choice and Accountability = orange

Good Works = yellow

Integrity = purple

Virtue = gold

Each"princess" got a crown with flowers in the coordinating Value color, made by yours truly!  I went with bohemian, flapper headband sort of crowns.  So much fun to create, and the girls were delighted with them.

We have weekly mid-week activities for the Young Women and this week, we worked on memorizing the scripture verse of the year 2 Nephi 31:20 "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life." 

Nothing says forward like an arrow, so made some fun decorative arrows to keep our hands busy while we were working our minds to memorize the words. We wrapped embroidery floss around 18 inch long 1/4 inch dowels in the Young Women Value colors (again) and then hot glued on gold card stock arrow points and feathers.  We finished them off by writing "Press Forward 2016" on the shaft.  I think they are pretty cool.
