this post brought to you by the letter Y

Gee whiz.  It looks like this is turning into a preschool blog, eh?  Well summer's almost here and we will be on to new endeavors, but for now. . .

It's perfect timing to teach AJ about the letter Y, since "why?" is the most common thing to come out of the boy's mouth these days.

While we were waiting for everyone to arrive we colored everyone's favorite Jedi.
We did a little yoga.
We practiced making the y sound.  I learned a helpful hint from one of the mom's who's child is in speech therapy.  Remind the kids to smile when you make the y sound and it helps them get it right!  We sang this funny little song about yaks

(Tune: Three Blind Mice)
Yak, yak, yak; yak, yak, yak,
Has broad shoulders, has a broad back.
He's big and strong and knows the way,
He works hard almost every day,
He doesn't get much time for play.
Yak, yak, yak.

And read the book Clickity Clack, by Rob and Amy Spence.  Yaks go on a noisy train.  It's very fun to read aloud.
This lead to the yarn covered yak craft project!
We used my alliteration page to circle all the letter y in print that we could find.
We did a YUMMY writing practice; writing Ys in chocolate pudding!!!
some of us thought it was REALLY yummy...
and others thought getting messy with chocolate was decidedly YUCKY!
We made Ys with our bodies.

And best of all we yelled all the different ways we could think of with Ys. . . (like pirates = Yo ho! Yo ho! or like cowboys = yippie-ki-yi-yea or yee haw etc.)
(As always, you are welcome to borrow these coloring pages, but for personal use only please.)

Okay, so minus the Yoda, and the AWESOME art work, Y looked very similar at my house last week, LOL we did a lot of yoga I didn't tell the parents we had, I got phone call later during the week wondering about it, it must have taken root, my version of yummy yucky involved a blindfold and taste testing though, which was very interesting with 4 yr olds.... Love the pages I am so printing them for the next go around.
