more summer fun

We got out to see a few of the local attractions this week and we had nice overcast skies which made photographing the kids really fun. First we checked out the Old Mac Donald’s Petting Farm. Once again, J proved to be our most animal-loving kid. He hardly spoke the whole time; he was just so focused & in a sort of animal-zone. S warmed up to the animals eventually. AJ’s initial reaction to going inside the pens was hysterically terrified.  After an hour or so and watching the chicks until he was brave enough to touch one, he mellowed to resolutely standoffish, without the sobbing and screaming, but still tenaciously clinging to me.
There were all your standard farm animals to see, and most of them were miniature versions. There were pig races and pony rides. There were goats that would eat their lunch about 15 feet in the air on a swinging bridge? Don’t know what that was all about, but it was kind of neato in a bizarre way.
There were chicks to hold and calves to bottle feed. But hands down everyone’s favorites were the one week old miniature goat twins, even though they nibbled on anything that held still. Soooooooooooo adorable.

On Saturday, we squeezed in a quick trip to Reptile Gardens, world's largest collection of reptiles or so they claim, in between church responsibilities. (That’s why Marc is in a white shirt and tie in all the photos.) They were having a big 130th birthday bash for Methuselah, the Galapagos Giant Tortoise.  And here we all are with the lively birthday boy...he'd just eaten and sort of dozed off.
Come visit us and the goats and turtles soon!
