Thursday morning we woke up to an unexpected guest... a rampant pink eye virus. I'll spare you the awful photos, but yep, we were officially quarantined from our previously laid plans. Luckily we had been in charge of the cranberry slush and the pies... for 30 people, so we were well stocked with the 2 most critical elements of a great Thanksgiving. We even used snow to freeze the slush this year.
We managed to pull together the other main components of a traditional dinner including several dishes that remind us of Thanksgivings spent with now far flung friends. Instead of running our traditional turkey trot 5k we snuggled down in front of the fire and watched 5 movies. And because it was my party now, we ended with a family art project; painted our hands to make a gang of googly eyed turkeys.
The next day we were still keeping our pink eyes to ourselves, but M couldn't stand being inside for another minute. We bundled up and played in the snow. It's amazing how warm 35 degrees can feel after not even making it into the double digits for a week or so. Sledding and snowman building were the top order of business.
After a few runs on the sleds, M realized that adding hula hoops would make it more fun...it's only a matter of time before he & AJ figure out how to pipe propane to the hula hoops to make them flame!

Not what you planned, but it looks/sounds like a really great Thanksgiving!
And I am regularly surprised to find out that it is barely above freezing when we're out and about without coats or hats or gloves. I guess we're getting accustomed to these northern winters. :-)
