mix & match book

We've been working on a fun little collaborative art project for awhile. It’s all finished now, and tickling our funny bones. We started with a boardbook that we picked up on clearance for $0.50. The book's pages are split in to an upper and a lower half. The upper half has an animal’s head and torso. The lower half has its hips and legs. Each facing page has part of its name. You mix and match the heads and tails to create silly combos.
We traced the split pages, cut out a bunch of tops and bottoms, and marked the spot where the top needed to meet the bottom so that all our drawings would line up.
We temporarily taped the top and bottom split pages together on the backside of the paper to make it more natural to draw our figures. Everyone (well except AJ) drew and colored any subject their hearts desired.
R2-D2, by S
Darth Vader; top by M & bottom by J
Wampa Ice Creature from the planet Hoth, by J
I used glue and packing tape to paste our images over the existing ones, and to add more pages in between. The craftsmanship ain't pretty, but it is generally drool-resistant, the cover almost closes, and we are having a lot of fun with it. Here are some of our favorite combinations.

Butterbacca is our favorite to say.
Just about anything with the turtle's, or C3-PO's or Chewbacca's feet is fuuuuuuunnny.
It's amazing how something so simple can entertain us again and again.
You will notice that we are still consumed with the Star Wars Saga.  If you were a Star Wars fan in the 1970s you must check out this site that M came across with ALL the Read-A-Long books and recordings!  Oh the nostalgia!)
