Some of AJ’s toys decided they needed some clothes this week. We pulled out the scrap box of knit fabric,
buttons and scissors and in no time we were ready for a fashion show.
Here’s our basic pattern.
Choose a piece of knit or other non-fraying material. (How about this vintage double knit
argyle! I think my mom made a pair of
swim trunks out of this for my dad in the 70s.
Awesome, right?!?!!) Next cut a rectangle that will overlap when
wrapped around your poor, naked stuffed animal.
Give yourself a little mark where their arms are and cut small arm holes
in your rectangle. We did buttons and a
simple slit for the button hole, but you could do Velcro too.
Oh! Mr. T-Rex! You look simply maaaaaarvelous in that argyle vest!
(note, if you have girl animals you can button them up in the back like Doggie and it's a little sun dress.)
We got a little fancy with Red Bear’s raincoat and added a
hood with the sewing machine. I've always
had a weakness for yellow raincoats.
Remember the t-shirt capes?
AJ is a huge fan and now lots of his animals have capes too. Most of his stuffed animals are less than a
foot high, so all we needed to do is use one of the sleeves that were cut off
the original t-shirt and a little more Under Wonder & contrasting knit for
the little green logo. I just cut a small neck
hole since knit is stretchy, the animals heads are squishy, and there’s nothing cool about a slovenly stretched
out super hero cape on your favorite stuffed monkey.
